Rangel honors 'fallen comrades' of Korean War
(NECN: Washington, D.C.) - Congress on Thursday commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, with Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) taking the lead at the podium.
Congressman Rangel served in the Korean War after volunteering for the Army. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor. He thanked Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for "making certain" the nation has the chance to thank those who served in Korea and those who never returned.
"We humbly acknowledge that it is not us that you honor, but our fallen comrades that did not come back with us," Rep. Rangel said.
He thanked those who take the time to thank the men and women who went to a distant land to fight for their country.
"The only color that we knew was the flag -- it was red, it was white, it was blue. It represented everything that we were and everything that we ever hoped to be," he said.
